5 Foods With Healing Effects

Mother Nature really has provided us with a host of foods and fall-backs, all naturally designed to help us maintain health and heal our aching bodies.  Indeed, by simply looking to some natural foods, we can minimize the symptoms of common ailments, or prevent them altogether.

The list of healing foods is really quite long and distinguished, and it would really take a book, not a blog article, to write about them all.  To give you a taste, though, here are five great foods with healing properties to get you started….and hopefully interested in learning more about the power of nature’s best healing foods.

Teas.  Tea is a healing food that goes back to the ancients.  There are almost endless varieties of teas, including mint teas, herbal teas, green teas, and black…so many options with so many healing properties to offer.  Tea has been touted, quite rightly, as a food fit for healing everything from the common cold to even preventing cancer, thanks to the wonderful properties of the natural tea leaf.  And here’s a bonus tip: you know that much-loved companion of the tea, honey?  It is a fantastic healer as well, and has been shown to be an excellent way to build immunity to allergies (when consuming locally produced honey).
Soups and Broths. Your grandmother said it, your mother said it, and your doctor has said it.  Soups and broths are one of the ultimate healing foods.  They provide digestible sustenance when your stomach and body are feeling low, and also essential fluids and hydration that are always elemental in healing a sick body.  An old stand-by, but for a great reason.
Spicy Foods. Spicy foods often get a bad rap, but can really be great food-healers.  They can help ease nasal and sinus congestion, and moisturize dried-out cavities as they do, and also offer some additional healing properties and possibly even weight-loss help (some studies show spicy foods to increase calorie burning).
Cranberries. The acidic nature of cranberries makes them an excellent healing food with many healing properties, and properties well-suited to infection and prevention as well.  Cranberries are a first recommendation for people who frequently suffer with urinary tract issues, and the antioxidants are renowned for prevention of cancers and other diseases.
Yogurt. Yogurt with live cultures is another ancient healing food.  The probiotics, healthy bacterias, and cultures in yogurt help maintain balance of essentials in the body, keep yeasts at bay, and restore elements we often lose when we are sick or use antibiotics and medicines.  It is commonly recommended to consume yogurt any time you use an antibiotic, so that those “good” bacterias are not lost.  Besides, it’s good for you and provides essential calcium – so how can you lose?

Good foods really are the foundation of good health, but they can also do much more than just fuel the body.  By choosing great healing foods like these, you can prevent and cure much of what ails you…the way Mother Nature intended you to do.
